Jonathan, lovingly known as Jon Jon, was 18 years old and a recent Camp Hill High School graduate when we suddenly lost him to anaphylactic shock on August 16, 2019. The following week, instead of sending him to West Chester University we were attending his Celebration of Life service. In an instant our lives went from normal to never being normal again. It's a circumstance that no matter how much we want to, we cannot change. But the one thing we can change is the new narrative that defines our lives and ensure that Jon Jon's memory and the positive impact he made in his 18 years will ALWAYS outshine our grief.
Honor #25, a non-profit organization, was established to honor the memory of Jon Jon whose contributions to his teams went beyond scoring goals or grabbing rebounds. He brought special and appealing qualities to his teams and teammates. Whether Jon Jon was heading the soccer ball, fighting for rebounds, or keeping his teammates in the right mindset, he was the young man who bled blue and white and who used his good nature and demeanor to rally his teammates when they were down. Jon Jon was beloved not only by his teammates - opposing players also appreciated his friendship. At the end of the day, everyone recognized Jon Jon as a true friend, dedicated teammate and a loyal Camp Hill Lion.
Jon Jon's impact as a friend and teammate is his legacy. Honor #25 was not established to recognize athletic excellence or top academic performance. Working hard to be your best is an important quality, but if you work hard and don't earn the top spot that makes you no less important, no less special and no less impactful on those around you. Jon Jon, for all his imperfections, absolutely made a difference. He embraced friendship, compassion, and living in the moment; traits often overlooked when calculating success today. Having left this world far too soon, we know that Jon Jon's legacy is proving that friendship, compassion, supporting your team - win or lose, and being proud to be part of bigger whole, whether it's your team, your family or your community are values that mean far more to all of us than we realize. View the tribute video below created by Jon Jon's friends that beautifully illustrates the spirit of Honor #25.
The organization name is the product of an incredible group of basketball teammates and coaches who dedicated the 2019-20 season to honoring Jonathan's memory. Honor #25 was the tagline for the season and referred to Jon Jon's jersey number. The tribute effort took on a life of its own and today, when someone says, Honor #25, they know it represents Jonathan and his legacy.
Honor #25 is very proud of establishing the Honor #25 Team comprised of dual-sport senior athletes that exemplify the Honor #25 spirit. One team member is the recipient of the $1,000 Jonathan Fagan Memorial Scholarship with each remaining team member receiving a $500 award for college expenses. Plans are also underway for additional initiatives under the Honor #25 umbrella.
On behalf of the entire Fagan family, thank you for taking the time to learn about Jonathan, discover how much he is missed and loved, and for honoring his legacy through support for Honor #25. With sincerest thanks, Alane Fagan.
